Prostate
Treatment
Disorders and diseases of the prostate glands are one of the
leading health issues for men today. Primarily, there are three
different kinds of problems that may affect the prostate gland
and require prostate treatment.
Prostatitis is an inflammation of the prostate gland. The inflammation
can be classified in three different manners. Acute inflammation
of the prostate gland, which is caused by bacteria and may be
accompanied by chills and fever is known as acute bacterial prostatitis.
Other symptoms of this prostate problem include pains in the lower
back and rectum. A recurrent infection of the prostate, which
is often associated with chronic urinary infection, is known as
chronic bacterial prostatitis. Painful urination and genital pain
may also accompany this form of prostate disease. A prostate problem
in which there is no apparent bacterial infection, but there is
inflammation, is known as nonbacterial prostatitis. The most common
symptom of nonbacterial prostatitis is difficult or painful urination.
Antibiotics are the most common form of prostate treatment for
all three of these types of prostate inflammation problems.
Benign prostatic hyperplasia, often referred to as simply BPH,
is an enlargement of the prostate gland that usually occurs in
men who are over the age of 50. This enlargement in the prostate
gland can cause a gradual squeezing of the urethra, which makes
urinating difficult and painful. Many men who experience this
prostate problem do not have any symptoms at all and it may not
be detected until an annual rectal exam. Men with this prostate
problem who do experience symptoms are likely to notice difficulty
in starting urination, frequent urination as well as an increased
frequency in awakening at night to urinate. There are a number
of prostate treatment options available for patients who suffer
from BPH. In some cases, the symptoms may lessen on their own
without active intervention. Medications as well as prostate treatment
options that are non-surgical may also help to alleviate the symptoms
of BPH. Sometimes heat processes are used to destroy excess tissue.
Some cases of BPH do require surgical prostate treatment and in
some cases the entire prostate must be removed in order to allow
for better long term results and alleviation of pain. Other surgical
options simply include the removal of excess tissue. Patients
should be aware that there are serious side effects related to
surgical options, including further urinary problems as well as
a loss of sexual function.
However, the annual mortality rate for prostate cancer is dropping.
Black Americans have the highest instances of prostate cancer
deaths, followed by Caucasians and Hispanics. Japan has one of
the lowest instances of prostate cancer in the world. This is
fueling speculation that a diet rich in omega 3 oils that you
get from eating a diet with fish at least three times per week
is a possible prevention of prostate cancer.
Prostate cancer is one of the leading types of cancers diagnosed
in American men. Each year almost a quarter of a million new cases
are diagnosed. It is estimated that prostate cancer will affect
one out of every ten men. Each year more than 30,000 men die from
prostate cancer. While at one time prostate cancer was considered
to be quite deadly, today with early detection, the survival rates
have increased considerably. There are a number of prostate treatment
options available for this type of prostate disease, including
hormonal therapy, surgery, radiation, chemotherapy and simple
observation.
In addition to surgical and other types of traditional medical
prostate treatment options, many patients are also turning to
natural prostrate treatment options. Saw palmetto has proven to
be very effective in treating an enlarged prostate. Almost half
of the men tracked reported favorable results when using saw palmetto
compared to men who used other herbal remedies. Other prostate
treatment options include cutting back or eliminating caffeine
and alcohol drinking because both increase urination. Also reducing
the amount of after meal drinking of any fluid helped to reduce
or eliminate enlarged prostate symptoms.
The low incidence of prostate cancer and disorders in men of
Japanese men has led to several studies to understand the link.
These studies indicate that a diet which is rich in fish and soy
may be the answer to another natural prostate treatment solution.
Another possible prostate treatment solution is the consumption
of tea. Green tea has numerous health benefits and has been used
for centuries for health purposes. Both green and black tea are
showing signs that they slow the growth or prostate cancer, which
is another reason why prostate cancer is relatively minimal in
Japan . Other food studies that are underway or being conducted
include tomato rich diets, which have been proven to aid in heart
health.
One of the more controversial prostate treatment solution involves
increases the release of seminal fluids from the prostate gland
by prostate stimulation. Sometimes referred to as prostate massage
or milking, this procedure can either be performed in medical
setting or at home in privacy. The idea behind this prostate treatment
lies in research which indicates that ejaculation appears to prevent
the build up of carcinogens in the prostate. The research was
based on questionnaires that were completed by almost 1100 men
younger than 70 years old who were diagnosed with prostate cancer
and almost 1300 healthy males. The research further indicated
that the amount of times a man ejaculated during a week was significant
whereas the number of times a man ejaculated in a given 24 hour
period was unimportant. The study was published in July of 2003.
While there is no known prevention for prostate cancer, research
currently underway indicates that the answer to successful prostate
treatment may be geared specifically toward diet. If a male increases
his intake of omega 3 oils and soy protein, as well as tea consumption,
he will be taking proactive steps to reducing his chances of developing
prostate cancer. More research is necessary to determine the causes
of prostate cancer. There is no indication that prostate cancer
is a result of sexually transmitted diseases. Research continues
to insure prostate health and the continued decline of prostate
disease mortality.
