Prostate
Cancer Cure
Prostate cancer is one of the leading causes among American men
and is a disease to which African American men appear to be particularly
susceptible. Each year almost one quarter of a million new cases
of prostate cancer are diagnosed and about 30,000 men die each
year from prostate cancer. Fortunately, today there are many more
advanced techniques which can be used to detect prostate cancer
early. Early detection is one of the most important aspects to
treating prostate cancer. Researchers are also working on ways
at finding the cause behind prostate cancer, however today there
is no known cause of prostate cancer. Researchers have been able
to determine that prostate cancer appears to be linked to older
men as well as men who are of African-American descent. Genetics
and heredity also appear to play a role in the development of
prostate cancer. At one time prostate cancer was much more deadly
than it is today, however researchers are still working on finding
an optimal prostate cancer cure. To date the only prostate cancer
cure seems to treatment options to remove or destroy the prostate
cells which led to the development of prostate cancer.
The prostate cancer cure that is pursued will greatly depend
on a large number of factors including the age, overall health
and wishes of the patient as well as the stage to which the cancer
has progressed. The ramifications and side effects of all types
of prostate treatments should be greatly explored as some types
of prostate cancer cures may lead to permanent urinary and sexual
dysfunction. New techniques are constantly being studied to eliminate
the risks related to such dysfunctions.
There is a better chance of a complete prostate cancer cure if
the cancer is caught early enough. This is sometimes difficult
to do if there are no symptoms present, which is unfortunately
often the case. Prostate cancer is generally slow growing and
developing disease, which means that the cancer may have begun
to develop years before it is actually detected. In some cases
the prostate cancer may not be detected until it has spread to
other areas of the body, which makes a prostate cancer cure that
much more difficult. In these cases, the best available prostate
cancer cure is often surgery and complete removal of the prostate
gland.
Prostate cancer is normally detected using a combination of a
rectal exam, a PSA test and a biopsy. If a positive prostate cancer
diagnosis is made the physician will then make a determination
regarding how fast the cancer is growing and possibly spreading.
This will help him or her in developing a prostate cancer cure
treatment plan and determine whether surgery is required or not.
When prostate cancer is still in the early stages and the cancer
has not spread to other locations such as the lymph nodes, surgery
may actually be the best prostate cancer cure to pursue. There
are some risks related to surgery, but at this point it may be
possible to remove the cancerous tissue and cells while still
retaining a portion or all of the prostate gland. The ability
to retain the prostate gland will make a difference in whether
or not the patient will suffer any permanent damage that might
make him infertile or even impotent. Despite the fact that there
such serious side effects related to this type of prostate cancer
cure, many doctors still feel that a radical prostatectomy is
the best option to pursue in order to be sure that all of the
cancer is removed and save the life of the patient. This type
of prostate cancer cure generally requires the removal of a sample
of the lymph nodes near the prostate to determine whether the
cancer has spread to this area. The seminal vesicles, which are
the glands where sperm is made, are also removed with this prostate
cancer treatment option. At a minimum, the patient will suffer
from infertility as a side effect. There is a risk of impotence
as well, which means that the patient will not be able to have
an erection. Incontinence, the inability to control urine flow
is also a risk that must be considered.
At one time these risks were greatly increased; today however
doctors may be able to perform a prostate cancer cure surgery
procedure that will greatly reduce such risks. With this type
of prostate cancer cure, known as a TURP, only the cancerous portion
of the prostate is removed. A small wire loop is brought into
the prostate through the urethra to perform this procedure. At
this time this procedure is only recommended for men who are unable
to have a radical prostatectomy due to their age or because they
have some other illness.
Even if a patient does have a partial or complete prostate cancer
surgery, he will generally be required to return for monitoring
and screenings in order to insure that the cancer has not returned.
here is also a tremendous amount of research being performed
on the possibility of natural prostate cancer cures. A natural
prostate cancer cure involves the use of all natural products
such as Saw Palmetto to treat prostate disorders. At this time,
doctors do not recommend the use of such natural products as a
prostate cancer cure, although some studies indicate that they
may be beneficial in relieving the pain and symptoms associated
with other types of prostate disorders such as prostate inflammation
and enlargement. Besides Saw Palmetto, green tea and soy are also
believed to be very beneficial in treating the symptoms of an
enlarged or inflamed prostate gland. Again, however; there is
not currently enough conclusive research to indicate that such
natural methods are an advisable prostate cancer cure. Delaying
surgical options can be quite dangerous and may even be life threatening.
Patients who are concerned about having prostate surgery because
of fears related to impotence and/or infertility, should discuss
their options with their physician.
